Top six celebs’ marriage break-ups

They are celebrities and usually, so much pomp follows their wedding especially for those of them who roll out the drums to have an earth-shaking ceremony. And when these marriages crumble unexpectedly after a short while, it is also followed with so much scandal, noise and most people, especially those who see them as their idols, are left in wonder and amazement. Saturday Beats beams its focus on some of the marriage crashes that shocked Nigerians in recent years.
Tiwa Savage and Tunji Tee-Billz Balogun
Theirs looked like a match made in heaven; at least that was the picture they painted on social media. So beautiful did their love seem that rap artiste, Ice Prince, in his song, That Could be Us, praised the couple’s love and told his potential girlfriend that their relationship could be like Tiwa and Tunji’s.
However, Nigerians got the shock of their lives about two weeks ago when Tee Billz went on his Instagram page to rant and tell tales of his wife’s alleged infidelity among other things. In retaliation, Tiwa Savage granted a no-hold-barred interview where she claimed that her husband was not only a cheat but was an irresponsible man who stole from her. Although other entertainers have pleaded with both parties to let peace reign for the sake of their son, Jamil, Tiwa has made it known that the marriage is over.
Toyin Aimakhu and Adeniyi Johnson
When the romance between the pair began to brew, many people were skeptical for several reasons. First on the list was the issue of age difference because Toyin is older than Adeniyi.
Some argued that it was an egocentric relationship because  it was alleged that Toyin earned more money and seemed like the breadwinner of the family, so most likely she would want her decision to be final and this might not sit well with her husband.
Despite all these odds, the pair tried to prove that love is blind and they proceeded to the altar. Toyin and Adeniyi had a low key traditional wedding in Ibadan in February 2013 and on July 8, 2013, they signed the dotted lines at the Ikoyi registry.
Shortly after they tied the knot, people began to monitor the marriage just to see if their predictions would come to pass and the couple made it easy for them by posting their daily activities online for the public to comment. Sometime in 2015, their marriage had a hiccup but their parents came to the rescue to patch things up.
Later that year, it was announced that their marriage crumbled like a pack of cards. Although they did not give detailed reasons for their marriage failure, Johnson, in an interview once hinted that his marriage crashed because his wife caught him flirting.
In a recent interview, the actress disclosed that she doubts she would give marriage or love another chance.
Ini Edo and Philip Ehiagwina
Not many knew how the romance began but they certainly knew how it ended. The union between the two was one plagued by various controversies; top on the list was the constant war of words between Phillip’s first ex-wife, Ruth Okoro and the couple.
Despite the storm, the pair was able to sail through together for about six years before they called it quits. The separation was a messy one and some news portals reported that her bride price was returned because she was unfaithful in the marriage. It was alleged that she had an affair with a governor and that did not go down well with Phillip. It was also reported that the marriage broke up because the actress did not conceive a child and the husband’s family was breathing down her neck for a child. After a long silence on the issue, the actress via her twitter handle, insisted that she was never unfaithful to her husband. She wrote, “I asked for a divorce from my ex-husband because of irreconcilable differences.  I never cheated on my husband.  There’s a conscious and malicious attempt at tarnishing my image.  This whole saga is familiar.  Let’s not forget the past.  Thank you and God bless.”
The ace actress has since moved on with her life since the marriage crashed in 2014. Although there were claims in the media that she was in a relationship with an actor, Mike Godson, she never confirmed or denied the report.
Chika Ike and Tony Eberiri
The duo signed the dotted lines to become man and wife in 2006 and by 2013 another dotted line was signed in an Abuja High Court, but this time, it was to dissolve the marriage. Shortly after the dissolution of the marriage, the actress took a picture of the court paper beaming with smiles and it soon flooded the internet.
In a series of interviews, the actress made it known that the main reason she walked out of her marriage was because she was a victim of domestic violence. The actress claimed that her husband was always beating her and she lost her pregnancy on one of the occasions.
Though she has been linked with one or two top government officials, the pretty babe is still singing and gracing the TV screens.
Funke Akindele and Kenny Oloyede
The marriage between ace actress Funke Akindele and Kenny Oloyede just lasted for some months, it was between May 2012 and 2013. The marriage was the talk of town mostly because her hit movie, Jenifa, had endeared her to the hearts of her fans and many were so happy that their darling Funke had left the single ladies’ club.
However, some others wagged their tongues that the marriage would pack up soon because she was not Kenny’s first wife, others were optimistic that things would work out if they gave it a shot.
Nevertheless, it still came as a rude shock when the marriage collapsed when it did! Nobody saw it coming.
It came as a shock when the actress’ camp released the statement to confirm her separation, “We want to formally inform you that after due consultation and consideration, she’s now separated from Mr. Kehinde Oloyede as his wife.”
Subsequently, Oloyede, went on his Facebook page to break the news to his followers. He wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the separation of me and my wife, Mrs. Olufunke Akindele, we’ve both agreed to go our separate ways because of irreconcilable difference. We still remain best of friends and we forever remain good friends. I am doing just fine, getting along without you. I don’t need you anymore in my life. You are the greatest mistake I have made in recent times.”
When asked why she quit her marriage, the actress claimed that she was a victim of domestic abuse both emotionally and verbally.
“I was abused emotionally and verbally. Really, I felt we could work things out when the trouble started two months after the marriage, but I made up my mind and shut the door of the marriage at him when the trouble was coming to me too much,” she said.
Princess and Adeshola Jeremiah
Comedienne, Princess, was on top of the world when she was getting married. She was so excited that she even reportedly said, “I am so happy I’m now getting married, I can now proudly wear iro and buba like a Nigerian woman…God bless that young man that picked me and decided to pity me and marry me when I had given up all…I am saying this because I want you all to hear it, God bless him for me for covering up my shame.”
But her marriage to Adeshola was probably the shortest among the list as it packed up almost at the beginning.
Not much is known about why the marriage broke up but Princess would always pin it down on ‘Irreconcilable differences’.

The suspected pickpockets
Taoreed said before his arrest that he had removed two mobile phones from commuters during a rush at the Maryland bus-stop, “it was my third attempt that led to my arrest. My accomplice caused my arrest today. Before he joined me at Maryland, I had stolen two phones successfully.” He said it would not have been possible to arrest him, had his friend not joined him at Maryland area, “people who knew him in the area were monitoring us, unknown to us. No one influenced me to leave Olamide’s label – Lil Kesh

Ever since artiste, Lil Kesh, announced via his Instagram page that he has left YBNL, the record label of his mentor, Olamide, so many people have had diverse opinions about the young chap.
While many said that he was ill-advised by those he surrounded himself with, others opined that his career was not ripe for such a move as they said  it would affect him adversely

But in a chat with Saturday Beat, the rapper explained why he took the decision.
He said, “People are still getting it wrong; no peer group or friends pressurised me to leave YBNL. To set the record straight, I don’t move with any other crew other than YBNL; so who would possibly want to influence me? Nobody. It has always been Olamide’s dream that we all grow big in the industry; Olamide had shared the idea with me before I even thought of it. I am still very much around in the industry and good stuff is still going to come out from my stable and YBNL.
“The fact that I am floating my own label does not matter, neither does it mean that I am no longer under YBNL. That is where a lot of people are getting it wrong. Olamide and YBNL movement are still managing me as an artiste and the fact that I have my own label simply means that YAGI Records is being managed by YBNL. We are still together; I and Olamide still record in the same studio and work with same set of producers. As you all know that YBNL is a family thing and we all support one another.”
Known for the lewd lyrics in his songs, the 22-year-old said that people should not be deceived as he is a very religious person. He said that he is from a strong Christian background and he had never forgotten his roots.
While describing himself as a church boy, the singer said, “I don’t joke with my creator; despite all the whole celebrity thing; this life doesn’t freak me, I always remember where I came from and how far God has positioned me because my story is a testimony; what excuse do I have not to praise my creator?”
When asked if he knew that people perceived him to be a pompous fellow, he said that it was hard to believe because he hardly goes out.
“There are places where you go and people tell you Lil Kesh is a good guy while there are some places that will feed you with negative comments. That is all part of the life of a star. There are times I have a very bad day and barely smile; maybe that’s one of the days those people meet me, or maybe I am at an event with a crowd of over 5,000 people, you don’t expect me to take pictures with them all even though I am willing to do that. My manager sometimes restricts me when he sees that the crowd is becoming too unbearable. I am a human being and I can’t satisfy everybody.  Let me seize this opportunity to say I am sorry; maybe you caught up with me on a very wrong day. Lil Kesh is cool headed, playful and down to earth,” the rapper said.

Seun Kuti calls for protest over petrol pump price hike

*Seun Kuti

Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, is  demonstrating more and more that he is a true son of his father, by not letting the government off the hook so easily when they execute unpopular programmes or make unfriendly policies. The singer, in an Instagram post has called on Nigerians to say no to imported petrol and hike in petrol pump price. He reasoned that since NNPC gets its own fuel locally there shouldn’t be any increase in their own pump price.“NNPC gets its dollars directly from crude sales, so it doesn’t have to source from secondary sources. NNPC refines it’s petrol locally, so why are they increasing their pump price if this is just deregulation and subsidy removal? This is a price hike or NNPC has been getting subsidy also? #saynotoimportedpetrol. How much will NNPC sell petroleum since they source locally? It has to be at the old prices, right? Dear Nigerians, this is our chance to fight back without the NLC or any trade union. It’s simple. #saynotoimportedpetrol. Let’s all buy from NNPC stations only. We have already been queuing for months” he wrote. He further reasoned that anyone who wants to sell fuel in Nigeria should refine it in Nigeria, while challenging the marketers to build their own refineries and shun importation of the product entirely. “Anyone that wants to sell fuel in Nigeria should refine it in Nigeria. This will boost the economy and provide plenty of jobs and also plenty of petrol. #saynotoimportedpetrol. Let’s shut them down. They always say we can’t sacrifice and organize as a people. Let’s start here it’s simple, we just have to #saynotoimportedpetrol. If Buhari was truly fearless, his directive should have been that all marketers must build refinery before they can sell. That way the hardship will be on a few not the many!! Like we don’t know they want to use our sweat to recoup election expenses incurred by their government chicken boys. These people have made billions based on licenses issued in the name of the Nigerian people , it’s time to force them to put some back in the Nigerian people not David Cameron’s backyard. That’s fantastically corrupt” he added.

EFCC searches Fani-Kayode’s house, arrests domestic worker

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday stormed the Abuja home of a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and arrested a domestic servant, The PUNCH has learnt.
It was learnt that the operatives stormed the house located at 5 Zuma Close, Aso Drive, Abuja in the afternoon and searched the compound.
However, the detectives could not gain access to the main building as it was said to have been locked.
The spokesman for Fani-Kayode, Mr. Jude Ndukwe, told our correspondent on the telephone that the operatives stormed the compound without a search warrant.
Ndukwe said, “Operatives of the EFCC invaded the home again. They did not even have a search warrant but harassed everyone in the compound.
“They could not gain access to the main building so they decided to search the quarters where the domestic servants reside. They arrested the laundry man and took him to their office but later released him.
“Chief Fani-Kayode is already in their custody. I wonder why they are still behaving this way even though he has been cooperating with them. This executive rascality must stop.”
The ex-minister was on Monday arrested by the EFCC for allegedly receiving N840m in February 2015 when he was the spokesman for the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation.
The money which Fani-Kayode admitted to receiving was said to have emanated from the account of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The ex-minister, however, said he did not know that the money emanated from the account of the CBN.

Police arrest six suspected homosexuals in Edo

According to Alexander Okeke

The police have arrested six men for allegedly engaging in acts of homosexuality in the Benin area of Edo State.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5, AIG Musa Daura, who paraded the suspects on Thursday, said they were arrested on May 9, 2016.
Daura gave the names of the suspects as Festus Osagiede (24), Hyacinth Imahanrebhor (20), Itama Omon (25), Onwukwe Prince (28), Monye Chukwuma (23) and Osadebe Kelvin (26), adding that they had confessed to have been committing the crime since 2006.
He said Osagiede first committed the crime with the third suspect at a night club in Benin in 2006.
“After the third suspect (Itama) got drunk, Osagiede took him to his house and raped him. Since then, they have been committing the crime with others at large until May 2016, when luck ran out on them,” Daura said.

The youngest among the suspects, Hyacinth, said he was forced into the act by Osagiede, who allegedly threatened to kill him if he disclosed it to anyone.
He said, “It happened late last year, when I was returning from a birthday party at night. I was unable to get public transport back home.
“I met Festus (Osagiede) on my way and he asked me why I was roaming about.Later, he offered to let me pass the night at his place.
“That night, he touched me. In the course of shouting at him, he forcefully penetrated me and it got me sick.
“He said if I told anybody, he knew where to find me and my family, and he would kill me.”
However, the AIG described the crime as a disturbing trend, saying many of the perpetrators had formed cliques. He said the suspects would be charged to court on Friday (today).
“You will agree with me that this offence is an offence against humanity and nature, an abominable act that should be condemned by all,” he added.
